PROGRAMS:
San Jose Fire Department Clown Brigade: The Clown Brigade's mission is to represent the Burn Foundation and the San Jose Fire Department as ambassadors of goodwill and cheer. Our primary purpose is to bring joy and laughter to others as we educate the public about fire and life safety via Fire Prevention shows, hospital visits, parades and children's fairs.
Juvenile Firesetter's Program: This program was conceived as an intervention, education and prevention program. We are educators only, not professional counselors. Our objectives are as follows:
- The first and primary objective is to reduce the incidence of juvenile firesetting and arson in the City of San Jose by providing a comprehensive intervention, evaluation, education and referral program.
- A second objective is to teach youth the rules of fire safety and prevention and to educate them and their families about the role of the Fire Department in their communities.
- A third objective is to teach youth a basic set of values which includes such principles as commitment, responsibility and follow-through.
- A fourth objective is to encourage family participation in every phase of a program designed to keep their children from becoming involved in firesetting and arson activities and consequently reducing the number of burn injuries to children.
- A fifth objective, when the need arises, is to identify and refer potentially serious firesetting individuals and their families to seek professional counseling services available locally.
